Pianist Soo Yoen Kim stands as a remarkable and versatile figure in music, boasting a career that spans various facets of the musical landscape. Her achievements as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, choral conductor, orchestral player, and music educator showcase a dedication to the craft that is both impressive and inspiring. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall in New York, and Centennial Hall in Tucson. Her participation as a soloist at prestigious events such as the Chopin 200th Anniversary Gala Concert at the World Financial Center in New York. Additionally, she performed at the opening concert of the Lucca Music Festival in Italy. A laureate of several competitions, Soo Yoen Kim's musical prowess was recognized with First Prize in the American Protégé International Piano Competition 2014 at Carnegie Hall. Her accolades also include Second Prize in the Louis Trester Competition 2013 in Arizona and the title of Duquesne’s Concerto Competition 2011 winner. Before making her mark in the United States, she was already celebrated as the First Prize winner at the Korean Youth Piano Competition.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Yonsei University in Korea, a Master’s degree in Music from the Mannes School of Music in New York, an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona; a major in Piano Performance and a minor in Choral Conducting. Her commitment to musical education is evident through her work as a teaching assistant at Duquesne University and the University of Arizona. In addition, she is an accompanist for the University of Arizona Opera Production and the Arizona Choir. Her principal teachers are Dr. John Milbauer, Tannis Gibson, David Allen Wehr, Yuri Kim, Jung Hae Ra, Mi Kyung Kim and

Sang Jin Shin. 

 

Her influence extends beyond the stage, as her students have achieved notable success in competitions such as the ASMTA Arizona State Senior Performance Piano Competition, ASMTA Honors Recital, ASU Avanti/Steinway Piano Competition, EVMTA Piano Competition, and the Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Piano Competition.

Soo Yoen Kim's dedication to continuous learning is reflected in her participation in masterclasses led by world-class pianists, including Richard Goode, Murray Perahia, Oxana Yablonskaya, and Stephen Kovacevich. Her commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians is further demonstrated through her meticulous preparation of students for piano-level tests such as ABRSM, RCM, and the Arizona Study Program.

Dr. Kim's multifaceted career testifies to her exceptional talent, unwavering dedication, and profound impact on music. Her journey inspires aspiring musicians and is a testament to the enduring power of musical expression.
